Sept. 24 (Bloomberg) — The dollar fell against the yen and traded near a record low against the euro before data this week that may show declines in home sales and housing prices, fueling speculation U.S. interest rates will be reduced further.

Sept. 23 (Bloomberg) — Home sales in the U.S. dropped in August to the lowest level in almost six years while consumer spending gained, signs that the fallout from a housing recession has yet to reach the biggest part of the economy, economists said before reports this week.

August home sales in the eight-parish Baton Rouge market fell 15 percent from the year-ago period, but they marked an increase of about 15 percent above August 2005.
